概要

Chevening Scholarshipは、160を超える国と地域からリーダーシップの資質を持つ学生が、英国の大学で大学院の研究やコースを受講できるようにする国際的な奨学金制度です。

イギリス留学で最も有名な奨学金です。学費も生活費も高いイギリスにおいて、チーブニング奨学生に選ばれること生活がかなり楽になりますし、チーブニングの国際的なネットワークに加われることも大きなメリットです。

先輩・後輩や同期など、優秀で面白い活動をしている仲間たちと出会えます。

Chevening Scholarships Programは、1983年に外務・英連邦省賞制度（FCOAS）として開始されました。この計画の目的は、英国の将来のリーダーとなる英国の友人のネットワークを構築することです。 1994年、ケント州セブノークスのチーブニングハウスにちなんで、名前がチーブニングに変更されました（現在、その建物は英国外務大臣と英国副首相の共同官邸となっています）。

Chevening is the UK Government’s international scholarships programme. Funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and partner organisations, we offer awards to study in the UK for one year on a fully funded master’s degree course.

対象

• Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory.  　（日本は該当）
• Commit to returning to your home country for at least two years after your scholarship ends. 
• Have at least two years of work experience (2,800 hours). 
• Hold an undergraduate degree that qualifies you for a UK master’s programme. 
• Apply to three different and eligible  UK university courses. You must have received an unconditional offer from at least one of these course choices by the references and education documents deadline listed on the application timeline. 

Work experience requirement

Before applying for a Chevening Scholarship, you need at least two years (2,800 hours) of work experience.  

This can include: 

• Full-time employment 
• Part-time employment 
• Voluntary work 
• Paid or unpaid internships 

Experience gained during mandatory employment for your degree does not count. You can combine up to fifteen different work periods to meet the requirement.

チーブニング奨学金の応募プロセス

チーブニング奨学金の応募プロセスは、いくつかのステップに分かれています。毎年、応募の締め切りが決まっており、通常は秋から冬にかけて応募が行われます。

1 オンライン申請

応募者は、チーブニングの公式ウェブサイトを通じてオンライン申請を行います。申請には、学歴や職務経験に関する情報、リーダーシップ経験に関するエッセイなどが必要です。エッセイでは、自分のキャリア目標やイギリスで学びたい理由、将来的に自国でどのように貢献するかを詳しく説明することが求められます。

2 大学への出願

奨学金の申請と並行して、イギリスの大学にも直接出願する必要があります。通常、3つの希望する大学・修士プログラムを申請時に記載します。希望する大学に受け入れられることも、奨学金の受給条件の一つとなるため、大学選びは慎重に行う必要があります。

3 面接

書類審査を通過した応募者には、面接が行われます。面接では、応募者のリーダーシップ経験やイギリスでの学びの目的、将来のキャリアに対するビジョンについて詳しく質問されます。この面接はオンラインや現地の大使館で行われることが多いです。

4 結果通知と受給

面接を通過した応募者は、最終的な奨学金受給者として選ばれ、授与が決定します。結果は通常、春から夏にかけて通知され、奨学金を受け取った学生は、その年の秋からイギリスの大学で学び始めます。
